The MSA ALTAIR 2X is a smart, reliable gas detector that delivers high-performance monitoring without the high price tag. Designed for a wide range of industrial environments, it offers the fastest sensor response times on the market, so you can trust it to alert you quickly in the presence of hazardous gases.
For even greater flexibility, the ALTAIR 2XT model allows you to simultaneously detect two toxic gases—ideal for environments where multiple hazards are present. With advanced MSA sensor technology, you’ll benefit from exceptional accuracy, low calibration gas usage, and minimal maintenance.
Built-in compliance features ensure you stay audit-ready. The 2X series provides traceability for up to 75 alarm events and can store 100–150 hours of periodic data, depending on the model. Visual alerts such as a green LED flash every 15 seconds for bump pass, or red flash with no checkmark for fail or expiry, make it easy to check device status at a glance.
The ALTAIR 2XP also offers stand-alone bump testing, streamlining maintenance and boosting productivity without requiring additional equipment.

No, however we would suggest that you undertake a Confined Space Course which covers the use of gas monitors. Our sister company Citrus Training offers these courses.
Taking into consideration the ATEX directive, manufacturer recommendations and your own company risk assessments, it is recommended that you bump test your monitor before every use, it is true that the law is not clear and doesn’t use the all-important word “MUST” and the regulation only surrounds flammable gases, not toxic, but you can guarantee that the authorities would want to see evidence of such testing should the worst happen!
