The Radiodetection GCat4+ Cable Avoidance Tool is specifically designed to help professionals detect and avoid buried cables and pipes during excavation, significantly reducing the risk of injury to personnel and preventing costly damage to utilities. Incorporating advanced technology, the GCat4+ promotes safer digging practices and supports a reduction in cable strikes across a wide range of industries.
A standout feature of the GCat4+ is its integrated GPS capability, which records precise location data alongside usage activity. This allows for accurate tracking and analysis of excavation practices. Bluetooth connectivity enables seamless data transfer to the C.A.T Manager Online cloud-based system, supporting near real-time monitoring of operator performance from any PC. For enhanced convenience, a high-speed USB 2.0 connection is also available for quick and reliable data uploads.
The GCat4+ is equipped with a variety of powerful detection modes to ensure maximum operational versatility. The Avoidance Mode enables rapid surveying, allowing users to quickly detect buried utilities before excavation begins. In Power Mode, the device detects energised power cables, providing an additional layer of safety. The Radio Mode identifies re-radiated radio signals from underground cables and pipes, helping to map hidden infrastructure more accurately. Meanwhile, the Genny Mode enhances the detection of utilities by working in conjunction with a Genny signal transmitter to boost signal strength and improve location accuracy.
In addition to its advanced detection modes, the GCat4+ is packed with enhanced features designed to excel in challenging environments. Dynamic Overvoltage Protection allows the tool to operate reliably even in areas with high electrical noise. The StrikeAlert function warns the user when a shallow cable is detected, helping to minimise the risk of dangerous cable strikes. When used with a Genny4, the GCat4+ can also provide depth estimation, giving a clearer understanding of how deeply buried the utility is. Furthermore, the device includes datalogging and a swing warning system, which automatically records operational data and alerts the user if the tool is swung excessively, encouraging best-practice handling techniques.

Most modern cable and pipe locators are designed to be weather-resistant, but it is important to check the specifications of each model. Avoid using the equipment in extreme weather conditions which may impair functionality or safety.
No, however we would suggest that you undertake a Cat and Genny Course which covers the use of cable locators. Our sister company Citrus Training offers these courses.
Regularly check and calibrate your device according to the manufacturers guidelines. Make sure to clean all equipment after use and store it in a dry, protected environment to prevent any damage to the product.
